Debut Album

ive finished my first compilation/album of stealin and thievin songs. I was going to give them away at the cut off shows this week in NZ but didnt get my act into gear to make enough tapes. Its only available on cassette, primarily because it doesnt really sound very good on any other format. And also because when cut off played at the cake shop in ludlow recently with a great band from brooklyn called 'woods' i only had enough money to buy their casette of 'some shame'. It has turned out to be my favorite possesion at the moment, and i love the way it sounds worse with every listen. With the credit crunch we cant afford to keep progressing with technology so we should be embracing a recession in terms of regresssion of standards, start making cassettes again. Come on!
So i was tempted to post a link to some mp3's for this record, buuuuuttttt, im not going to, instead im going to make a bunch and give them away at my next few shows for cut off your hands or whatever...also (even though NO ONE reads this) if you want one you can email me your address to: nick.cutoff@gmail with the subject line: STEALIN AND THIEVIN CASSETTE PLEASE and i'll send one to you asap...
the cover looks like this:
and this is the trackisting:

1. Giving Up
2. My Useless Skin
3. I guess i could try harder
4. Instrumental from 2005
5. Where the water meets the sky
6. Moonriver - by Henri Mancini
7. Breeding lilacs out of the dead land
8. Running away to join the circus
9. Bury her in the ocean
10. Nostalgia - song features on cut off your hands 'you and i' but was originally a stealin and thievin song.
11. You are no better
12. When you're only 21

of course its not mastered or EQ'd and it sounds just as i want it to.
I hope you like.

Mikey spends his spare time on tour hunched over his moleskine pad enveloped in his fantastic world of beasts, vampires, gangsters, penguins, pandas, fat little chinese boys eating noodles, dinosaurs, and all the characters have vampire fangs..so i guess theyre all vampires of a certain kind.
I found these ones on his computer which we're going to use for the art work of a bonus cd that people who pre order the cut off your hands album in NZ and Australia will get with the album.
I think these pictures are amazing:

and the back:

the cd features a bunch of recordings that were either demos of songs that made the record, or ones that ive done since then. I think most people who know cut off your hands should be surprised by these songs, id hope so anyway.

First Black Eye in Hackney

''The worst part of being in a band is the periods in between bursts of activity''

ha, i got this from Bradford Cox's deerhunter/atlas sound blog...a sentiment that couldnt ring truer for me in this past week of inactivity. The last 6 weeks of Cut Off Your Hands life has been pretty hectic playing shows from the states to the UK, Australia, NZ, Japan, NZ again, then UK again..to the point where we were exhausted and so relieved to have a couple weeks off, but yeah its getting boring doing nothing now.

Apparently we live in one of the roughest neighbourhoods in Hackney, there's supposed to be a gang war going on right now here, yep, its stepped up from gang 'feud' to war. I'm not sure what the defining moment was. The other night after being at a party with some friends me and phil jumped off the bus around 2am at Daubeney Rd only 2 minutes walk from our place, a walk all of us and the many friends we've had stay have walked 100's of times in the past few months whilst we've been here. 2 guys confronted us and i cant be bothered going into details but i got my camera stolen and some mean cuts to my legs, and phil got a bit of a black eye, the only bad thing about the whole incident was that they chased us to our door and attempted to barge our door down. Luckily they were weak and their attempts failed, but it was pretty shit really. So in my next week off me and phil are heading to holland to see my cousins and have a good time..oh i also cracket the screen on my computer meaning i cant record or use internet without borrowing friends computers..thanks mikey for leaving your computer here during your trip to Ireland.

Anyway enough negative stuff, Im pretty excited that for our next release here in the UK we'l be putting out an ep with a couple songs from the record as well as some recently recorded tracks which we didnt get time to do for the record. The song ''Shorelines'' is one of my favorite songs of ours lyrically, as it's dedicated to our friend Andrew Atkinson who died last year after a horrible accident jumping off a bridge in the province of Waikato in NZ. Andy was a rad, loyal and beautiful friend to so many, i hope this song can somehow, (not too cheesily) represent the above sentiments. We miss you Andy.

The EP tracklisting should look something like:

1. (as of yet untitled)
2. Happy As Can Be (title track)
3. Shorelines-
4. Iron Sleep
5. Nostalgia
